Think Before You Drink

No matter your age, it is wise to be careful about drinking alcohol.  Drinking alcohol can lead to a fall, and a fall can be serious business.

Alcohol:

  • alters your time to react to things
  • slows thinking time
  • decreases mental alertness
  • affects your judgement
  • decreases your balance

Alcohol does not mix well with medications, either prescription or over-the-counter products.  Mixing alcohol with some prescription drugs lead to earlier intoxication.  Alcohol can produce exaggerated responses to some drugs.

Alcohol and diuretics (water pills, tea, coffee) can combine in some people to reduce blood pressure, making them feel dizzy.  Talk to your health care provider or pharmacist about the effects of alcohol and the possible interactions with medications.

Think before you drink!
