Resources of the Month
Trying to learn a second, or even a third, language? Studying for TOEFL / IELTS or looking to improve your English skills? Or just want to watch, read and listen in your own language? Chatham-Kent Public Library has a wide collection of resources aimed at helping patrons learn a new language, improve your skills or just enjoy resources in your own language.
CKPL has books, movies, music, and digital content in over 15 different languages. There are 3 collections of languages resources:
1. Materials for learning a new language include languages for travelling. In addition to books, CKPL offers CDs and Books on CD. CKPL also has Mango Take-Out: Language Learning in a Box, Mango Playaways. CKPL recently added new adult Playaway Launchpads for interactive language learning.
2. Materials for English as a Second Language (ESL) and Adult Literacy. The adult literacy collection, mainly on the second floor at the Chatham Branch, is designed for adults who wish to learn English as a second language or improve their English skills. The collection has ESL materials about grammar, conversation, reading, writing, teaching, TOEFL and IELTS test preparation, etc.
3. CKPL collects books, DVDs and CDs in languages such as Arabic, Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Polish, Russian, Spanish and Vietnamese. You can search by language in online catalogue by using advance search.
