Communities in Bloom

Chatham-Kent 2010 National CiB winning logo buttonCommunities in Bloom (CiB) is about far more than just flowers! It is a Canadian non-profit organization that, through a competition, encourages community pride, environmental responsibility and heritage conservation, as well as overall beautification and tidiness.

Chatham-Kent CiB Community Profile Book

As a part of the judging process of the CiB competition, participants submit documentation that is intended to relay as much information as possible to the CiB judges about activities that fall into the CiB judging categories . Chatham-Kent's book is annually compiled and created by a CiB summer student using information collected year round by the CiB committee volunteers.

Competition Improves Communities' Quality of Life

CiB participants compete against others of similar population beginning at the provincial level potentially qualifying for national and international challenges.

Communities entered into the competition quickly realize the value of the program. While striving to fulfill all the CiB judging criteria, communities automatically benefit from the resulting improved quality of life.

Activities of the entire community, citizens, businesses, service groups and the Municipality are all taken into consideration in the competition. CiB judges not only assess a community’s accomplishments during a physical tour, but they also require further information to be relayed through a Community Profile Book.

The documentation is intended to relay as much information as possible to the CiB judges about activities that fall into the CiB judging categories. Chatham-Kent’s book is compiled and created by a CiB summer student using information collected year round by the CiB committee volunteers.

Awards

Contenders are awarded a rating of 1 to 5 Blooms (5 being the highest ranking) for their achievements in 6 different categories which ultimately characterize a blossoming, flourishing and metaphorically growing community.

Since its initial provincial entry in 2002, Chatham-Kent has been proud to receive numerous prestigious awards and recognitions at all levels of the CiB competition.
